Nest thermostat heating water at wrong time

I have a hot water schedule setup to heat water from 6-7am every day.  I recently installed a temp sensor on the hot water tank linked to Home assistant to log the temperature of the hot water tank (traditional system/vented system).  I can clearly see when i turn on taps / have a shower from temp drops at the right time, so i know the data is accurate.  I see the tank was heated from 00:00 to 00:35 (or thereabouts) though - 6 hours early.  Why is my water being heated at the wrong time?

Hi drsp123,

Sorry to hear the situation that you are experiencing with the Nest thermostat heating your water at the wrong time, i know it could be frustrating, but help is here! Check these articles in order to solve the situation:

  • True Radiant: This feature preheats your home to reach your desired temperature on time. You can check or adjust these settings here:  True Radiant.
  • Bacteria Prevention: Some Nest thermostats have a setting to periodically heat water to prevent Legionnaires' disease. You can check or adjust this setting here: Bacteria prevention.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Best regards,

Chris
