Nest thermostat keeps resetting to the scheduled sensor after I change it to a different one

Hello!

I’m having an issue where my Nest thermostat keeps resetting to the scheduled sensor after I change it to a different one. For example, I have it set to use my living room sensor in the morning (7-11am) but sometimes I work in the basement so I set it to use the basement sensor at around 9am, then 5 minutes later it has reverted to using the living room. Has anyone else seen this issue?

Thanks!

Hello Jsh415,

Thank you for reaching out and bringing your concern regarding the Nest Thermostat setting to our attention. I understand the frustration you must be experiencing with the thermostat resetting to the scheduled sensor after making a change.

Here are a few troubleshooting steps that could help:

  1. Check if there are any conflicting schedules or automation rules that might be causing the thermostat to revert to the default setting.
  2. Disable the Home and Away Assist and Eco Temperatures.
  3. Remove all thermostat actions from the Routines if you have the Google Home app installed.
  4. Restart the thermostat to refresh.
  5. If the problem persists, you might want to try resetting the thermostat to its factory settings and reconfiguring your preferences. Sometimes, glitches in the system can be resolved with a fresh start.

Let us know if that helps.

Best regards,
Mark

Hi Mark,

So you’re suggesting that I disable some of the more useful features of the device in order to make it work properly? And if that solves the issue then I need to just live without those features?

My best guess is that the sensor schedule continually overrides a manual sensor selection. The fact that the sensor schedule is limited to specific windows and separate from the temperature schedule is maddening. How are we supposed to tune the system? Which is presumably the main purpose of the sensors, to be able to more finely tune the system?

Hi Jsh415,

I completely understand your situation. The issue of the sensor schedule overriding manual selections can indeed be frustrating. In such situations, a potential workaround to ensure the Nest Thermostat prioritizes the Nest Temperature Sensor's schedule is to adjust the settings directly on the thermostat device.

Consider disabling features like auto-schedule and routines, if applicable to your device. By doing so, you may have more control over the temperature sensor selections without interference from the device's automated scheduling mechanisms. We can observe their behavior once the changes have been made and let me know how it goes.

Warm regards,
Mark

The problem with that is that the sensor schedule isn’t granular enough to manually set a certain temp on a certain sensor at a certain time. You can only control which sensor to use in a multi hour window. See attached screenshot
