Nest thermostat no longer works with voice commands

I had my new Nest thermostat for about 2 months and it was working great. Then (back in Jan/24) all of a sudden the voice command would no longer work. When I asked it to change temperature, it would say, 'actually the thermostat doesn't support that functionality '.  As well, my 2 Google displays also stopped working for changing the temperature. When I access the climate tab and move the dial, it changes the temperature, but then immediately reverts back to the previous temp. The temperature control works on my phone Google Home app only, or the device itself. I put in two separate lengthy calls to the help centre but both calls proved fruitless and were very frustrating by their lack of knowledge and ability to help with my then NEW device. I also asked to be contacted by a supervisor but that didn't happen. I am very busy so can't keep taking 1 or 2 hours of time to contact Google support with no resolution!! Please help.

Hi, @Dmk6,

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I'm sorry to hear your displays and speaker cannot control your Nest Thermostat anymore. I’m glad to help you.

For better assistance, I have a few questions:

  • Is the Nest Thermostat successfully set up on the same Wi-Fi network as the speaker or display?
  • Has the Google Nest account been linked to the speaker or display via the Assistant Settings?
  • What type of thermostat do you have?

In the meantime, try these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Confirm if you are using the same Google account as the primary account from within the Google Home app:

  • Open the Google Home app.
  • Tap the account icon in the upper right corner.
  • Make sure the displayed account is the one linked to your speaker or display. If not, tap the down arrow icon and choose "Add another account" to add the correct one.

  1. Verify if the Nest thermostat is listed:

  • Open the Google Home app.
  • Tap the account icon in the upper right corner.
  • Select "Assistant settings" > "Devices."
  • Check if your Nest Thermostat is listed under "Assistant Devices."

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Ana.

Hi Ana,

It appears my devices are on the same Google account, and my thermostat is listed under devices. Is there a way for us to set up a time I could get your assistance over the phone? This has been going on too long. Thanks

I tried what someone else posted, see below, and it worked!

'FIX:  if you have setup "custom" Temperatures, this for some reason disables voice commands to your Thermostat.  Delete them.   Modify the Temperature Presets:  Comfort, Eco, Sleep.  you can change the time & temps on those and voice will continue to work.'

VERY DISAPPOINTING, that any of the Google help experts couldn't help with the issue. AND it really is an issue because not only are many users suffering with voice commands not working, not having a true programmable thermostat defeats the purpose of purchasing one - and the price being double or triple what we'd normally spend.
