Nest thermostat not working

Hilary6

Hello, my nest thermostat is showing "please attach the display to its base" although it is attached. There is also a small light flashing at the top. The app is just saying "error". This has been left plugged in and on eco until today. I've read people talking about changing the battery but can't find any batteries to change. Any ideas please, I don't want to pay for a new one it's less than 2 years old. Thanks

Hi Hilary6,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. To know more about this issue, I’d like to confirm, what is the light status of your Nest Thermostat? Which Nest Thermostat do you have? How many Nest Thermostats do you have?

Give these steps a try:

  • Try detaching it from its base and check if the wires lay flat on the base. Otherwise, the wires may be pushing the display away from the base, causing the error message.
  • Check the Nest thermostat from the side. If the white plastic from the thermostat base is visible around any of the edges, the Nest display isn't seated properly. In this case, reseat the display.
  • Check the pin at the back of the display for any visible damage.
  • Try reseating the wires. Don’t forget to turn off the power breaker before doing this.
  • In case you have the Nest Learning Thermostat or Nest Thermostat E, try restarting it by pressing the display until the screen turns off (about 10 seconds) then let go of the ring. While the display is detached from the base, wait for the thermostat to turn back on and display the message: "Please attach the display to its base." Connect the display to the base and confirm that it starts back up.

Looking forward to your response.

Best,

Emerson
