I was wondering if anyone has had any experiences with getting a faulty replacement thermostat for a faulty initial purchase thermostat. We had our thermostat start overheating and after a few weeks with no thermostat we got a refurbished replacement. We wanted to make sure that it was installed properly so we paid to have ontech install it. The installer could not get the thermostat to work properly and told us to contact HVAC repair. We contacted the HVAC repair, and after paying for a service call, we find out we were sent another faulty thermostat. So now we are out the ontech installation fee and the HVAC service fee because we trusted that we were sent a functioning replacement. We have no way of getting our money back for those services and now our only option to get a thermostat is to have another refurbished unit sent to us. We are incredibly frustrated after having no thermostat for a month.

Did they verify the HVAC wiring and system was not causing the problem?
Where do you live? Most Gas and Electric utility companies have a website where you can get smart Tstats like Nest and others for drastic discounts. In NJ you can get Nest sometimes free or under $20 from NJ Natural Gas. 2 per gas account number.

Hi! Yes they rewired it to make sure that wasn't the issue. Good idea looking for rebates. Unfortunately our power company here in Florida doesn't offer anything for smart thermostats.

I have the same problem. I paid full price for a unit that failed after weeks. They replaced it with a refurbished one that now, a week later, does not work. So much for a reputable company.

They replaced with another refurbished. So far so good, it seems to be working. It tested fine on heat during setup and kicked in the compressor. We haven't had a real life need for heat yet though so we will see what happens. They refunded the ontech installation fee at least.
