I had the same issue y'day. It showed that message for a while.  And when that message showed up, I turned off the power at my HVAC and  usually it takes a minute or so for Nest to turn off and during this minute or so, that message didn't show up and let me continue with my installation!!  Later realized I had the blue and white mixed up which I corrected and it worked fine after that.

Hello folks,

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your inquiries. I'd be happy to take a look into this for both of you.

I appreciate you posting on this thread about what you've done to have your concern rectified, @voken.

@Kart78, I'd love to know more about this. To isolate:

  • Share with us a picture of your thermostat's wiring.
  • When did you install the thermostat?
  • When did the issue begin?

Please give these steps a whirl:

  1. Make sure that the wires are flat on the base.
    1. Detach the thermostat from its base and check that the wires lie flat on the base.
  2. Loosen the screws at the base.
    1. Use a screwdriver to loosen the screws at the base. This should help if the base is screwed too tightly to the wall.
  3. Check for any visible damage on the 20-pin connector.
  4. Reseat the wires.
    1. Turn off the power to the HVAC at the breaker box before touching the wires.
  5. Restart the thermostat.
    1. For the Nest Learning Thermostat and Nest Thermostat E: Press and hold the screen for 10 seconds until it shuts down to refresh.
    2. For Nest Thermostat 2020, remove the display from its base and take out the batteries for at least 3 minutes before plugging them back in.

Please let me know if that helps, or if the issue still persists.

Regards,

Mark
