Nest thermostat screen is blank

My Nest thermostat stopped working over 24 hours ago. The thermostat has nothing on the screen and I have replaced the batteries twice no with no luck. I've rebooted my wifi router and the thermostat is offline in the google home app.

Can anyone make any helpful suggestions as to what the problem is and how I can get my thermostat back online?

What model and generation is your Nest thermostat?

It’s the basic Nest Thermostat, neither 3rd or 4th or E or learning.

Hi nautinikk,

Thanks for posting. I'm sorry to hear about the situation that you are experiencing with the Nest Thermostat that is offline on the Google Home app. But don't worry, I can help. In this case, I just need to ask for some information to provide the best solution.

  1. Do you have a power outage lately?

I understand that you already changed the batteries. But please check this recommendation:

Try to change the batteries once again.

Use only high-quality 1.5 V AAA alkaline batteries from a known manufacturer.

  1. Pull the thermostat display off the base.
  2. Remove the old batteries from the back of the thermostat display and clean the contact where the batteries are going to be set.
  3. Insert the 2 new AAA alkaline batteries.
  4. Push the thermostat display back onto the base until it clicks into place, make sure that the pin connectors on the thermostat are in good condition, and check that all the wires are correctly inserted on its terminals.

Please let me know how that goes. I'll be waiting for your response.

Best regards,

Jenny

I wanted to provide an update to this issue I was having. I did replace the batteries several times. Turns out, half the pack of batteries were corroded and no longer worked properly. So luckily my thermostat is still in good condition and is working now that I've put a good pair of batteries in it. Thank goodness!
