Same problem here. Got the new one since Google quit supporting my old one and now it won't do a simple thing like connect for setup. Can't do anything on the nest itself.

I hate mine too. Days of not being able to connect to wifi or bluetooth. Love that it says use home app which says use nest app which then says use home app. Garbage device.

I finally got mine to connect by reinstalling the app. Sorry it didn't work for you though. Now if I can just figure out how to get it to use my heat strips with my heat pump not just as separate heat.

I tried that too, but happy it worked for you.

Since your Nest is stuck on “Looking for Nest,” try performing a full factory reset using the thermostat itself: press and hold the thermostat ring for about 10 seconds until it restarts, then select “Reset” from the menu. Make sure your phone is on the same Wi-Fi network and close any other smart home apps that might interfere. If it still won’t connect, contact Nest Support, they can guide you step by step or check if the device needs replacement.

Sounds like you’ve already done all the *free* and practical troubleshooting steps, so you’re definitely not alone—when a Nest thermostat is stuck on “Continue in the Google Home app,” it usually means the thermostat never finished its internal setup and won’t show the settings menu to allow a factory reset. Many users hit this when the device’s firmware glitches during pairing. The only consistent fix people report is forcing a hard reboot by pulling the display off the base for a full minute, then reconnecting while the Home app is already open on the “Looking for Nest” screen. If it still refuses to progress, it often indicates the unit needs replacement under warranty, since a true factory reset isn’t possible without the settings menu.

I’m having the same problem today with a new install.
