Nest thermostat won't stop cooling

My Nest thermostat is set to cool to 76 and registers a temp of 76. The HVAC is running and the temp of the vent air is 62 while the actual temperature around  the thermostat is 73. It continues to cool and the temperature continues to drop and all the while the thermostat does no show a cooling temperature so it just keeps on running.

Hi Phambone108,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with the cooling of your Nest Thermostat. I'd love to know more about this and I have a few questions:

  • What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?
  • How is your Nest Thermostat wired?

If you haven't yet, you could also click on this link for some troubleshooting steps you could try.

Thanks,

Edward

Hi Phambone108,

Just checking in to make sure that you've seen our response. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns as I will be locking this in 24 hours.

Thanks,

Edward

The Nest folks asked me to put some duct seal on the wall behind the thermostat. As I was looking at doing what they asked, the thermostat became disconnected and a message appeared that I needed to "reseat" it. So I pushed the thermostat back into place and it resumed functioning. From that point on the thermostat has functioned flawlessly. I never did get the duct seal installed. I had previously restarted the thermostat several times without it making a difference. Apparently this was more than a regular restart, but there was no need for any reprogramming. Regardless, all is well and I am just hoping there is no relapse.
