Nest thermostat

I installed the Nest thermostat 2 days ago. Apparently it has been offline for 12 hours now. The display is telling me the battery is low. (didn't even know it had a battery). When I wired the thermostat the instructions said to use only the same wires that were connected to the old thermostat, which was not a Nest. Going through the initial settings the questions included a heat pump question. I just answered yes because there was no other choice. The system is not a heat pump. (straight cool). Do I need to wire it differently? I am also charging but no USB came with the thermostat. Please help!

It sounds like something may have gone wrong during the installation.  When you have a chance reply with images of how the old thermostat was wired along with how the Nest is wired.
