Nest thermostat

Hi.  Just curious as things seem to be working ok.  Was able to install my Nest Learning Thermostat just fine following the instructions but wondering if the old thermostat had what could be considered a jumper wire.

In the attached picture of the old wire plate (pardon the dust), you can see that the red wire went from RC to R. I followed the instructions as per the app and we have heat so I believe we're good.  Anyone for see any issues with this setup?

Thanks!
