I Installed Nest thermostats because I am frequently away from home and need to know that my heating system is working properly. I am supposed to be able to read the thermostats through the phone app. Unfortunately, whenever there is a power outage, the thermostats go offline, and they cannot be put back online through the phone app. Someone has to be in the house and restart them manually. In short, for my purposes, the thermostats are a total waste of money. I will add that it took six visits from the heating people, costing me close to 2K, to get the thermostats to work at all in my house. This product is expensive junk. My advice: don't buy it.

At least if we knew that the thermostat was holding temp., it would be nice, but no way to tell. House could be ok or freezing.

Hi @steve4835,
Thanks for reaching out to the Google Nest community. I'm sorry to hear your Nest thermostats do not reconnect to WiFi after power outages unless you are home. I'm happy to give you more information.
The Nest Thermostat is created to connect the WiFi manually. Also, both devices need to be connected in the same network, the one with the Google Home or Nest app and the Nest Thermostat.
You can refer to this article when your Nest thermostat is offline.
Feel free to keep us posted if you have more questions.
Regards,
Gabriela

This is unhelpful. This post refers to a widely referenced problem. When there is a power failure, Nest Thermostats do not properly reconnect to the Nest network, so I cannot control them from the Google Home app. The problem is solved by restarting the thermostats, but I need physical access to them in order to do this (which is not helpful when I am away from home for an extended period).
It's actually interesting: I can access my router, and I see that the thermostats are connected to wifi. I can look at Internet activity and see that the thermostats have actually "phoned home" to Google. I can ping the thermostats on the local network, and they respond. But the app shows that they are disconnected, and they don't reconnect by themselves after several days.
This is a problem! No troubleshooter or boilerplate "Nest thermostat is offline" article helps.

Hi @NYZack,
Thank you for keeping me informed. I'm sorry to hear Nest Learning is not working as expected connecting with the Nest Network to control the Google Home app. The Nest Thermostat is created to connect to the WiFi manually. Also, both devices need to be connected to the same network, the one with the Google Home or Nest app and the Nest Thermostat.
