Nest tstat wiring not secure

The instructions say to push the tabs before inserting the wire, then the tab shall stay pushed down when the wire is securely installed.   I cannot get the tabs to stay down and the wires pull out easily.

Hi

Thanks for reaching out to the community. I'm sorry to hear that your thermostat wires cannot stay down and pull out easily. I'm happy to assist you right now.

To make sure the thermostat wires stay secure in the connector, I recommend the steps below.

  • Check the ends of the thermostat wires; they should be straight, leaving ⅜ of an inch or 10 millimeters of wire exposed.
  • Only put one wire into each connector, and don't connect any wires to your thermostat that were not connected to your old thermostat.
  • To insert the wires, hold down the connector button and push the wire all the way in, then make sure that the connector buttons stay down after you've inserted each wire.
  • Push in the wires so they are flush with the wall. This will help the thermostat connect to the base. Then connect the Nest thermostat display on the base until you hear a click.
