Yesterday I heard our boiler ignite in the middle of the day, no one in the house did anything to trigger this. So, although it’s 28 centigrade inside the Nest thermostat started heating the house and also the hot water storage cylinder.
Obviously being home, I was able to override this and switch the system off manual but had we been away for days/weeks I’m worried that a huge amount of energy would have been wasted. The Nest has worked flawlessly since installation about 4 years ago.

Hi Brad, thank you very much for replying.
No, I have not reset etc. when it happened I simply switched it from manual mode. My main issue isn’t the immediate resolution but the long term worry that it could switch to manual again some time in the future, possibly while I’m away and waste a lot of energy.
Many thanks

Thank you Brad, as mentioned, my Nest has worked flawlessly for 4 years or certainly appears to be the case. After Nest went into manual mode with no user intervention I changed it back to ‘normal mode’ since then it has worked fine, I haven’t noticed it go to manual mode since it happened. I’m sure if I reset Nest the same will be the case.
My concern isn’t the immediate state of Nest, I could wait 4 years and report back.
My concern is that it went into manual mode without any intervention and the worry it could do this again and waste an enormous amount of energy.

I see. Thank you for your feedback! As these cameras are 'Smart' devices, they will learn from the various settings that are set up, but it shouldn't be going into manual mode without you knowing. I would suggest that you reach out to Support to see what options you may have if the device is faulty.
Best regards,
Brad
