I received a Nest Thermostat to replace the I had that became defective after 4 months. The old one just stopped displaying the temp or anything. The screen would light up but nothing showed. Per the Google tech, I had a defective thermostat and needed replacing.
I took the new thermostat out the box and placed it on the base. Got the familiar "G", then the blue spinning graphic. After a few seconds of that I get a message "thermostat needs to shutdown". Being that I just received it, do I need to charge it for a few hours before I put it on the base?

Do you have the Learning Thermostat 3rd Gen and is the C wire installed?
Sometimes they do need a bit of charging via the USB port before you can install it.

@Patrick_Caezza Yes the C-wire is installed. It wasn't any issue with charging. An ADT tech came out and replaced the small plate the thermostat attaches to. There was a new attachment plate that came with the thermostat. Once replaced, the thermostat fired like normal. I returned the defective thermostat to Google, now awaiting for them to release the $237.07 hold they have on my credit card.
