New Nest thermostat reading indoor temp too high

So far I have done 2 factory resets and removed my account to disconnect WiFi. Temp reads 80 and AC is running cold, old thermostat wss off by 1-2 degrees sometimes but this is 5+ degrees off.  Set it to cool to 75 and after 2 hours still reading 80 sometimes higher.  I don't have a thermometer on hand but certain it's not that hot currently, more than comfortable. Any help or other suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

Hi birdcat125,

Thanks for posting in the Community! Sorry to hear that your Nest Thermostat isn’t reading the right indoor temperature. No worries, help is here! Let’s try some troubleshooting steps that might help to fix this situation:

  • Turn on Sunblock

Home App

  1. Open the Home app > select the thermostat.
  2. Tap Settings > Temperature preferences > Sunblock.
  3. Turn the Sunblock On.

Nest app

  1. Open the Nest app > select the thermostat.
  2. Go to Settings > Nest Sense > Sunblock.
  3. If Sunblock is off, turn it on by the slider Off.

  • Check if the thermostat is near a heat source

Nest thermostats in the U.S. and Canada are typically on a wall. Check if the thermostat is near:

  1. Air vents that direct warm air
  2. Appliances (that includes large televisions)
  3. Electrical outlets
  4. Plumbing (hot water pipes in old buildings are frequently not insulated)
  5. Warm air in the wall
  6. Other potential heat sources

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Axel.

I did check in the app, using the Google Home app BTW and don't have an option to turn on Sunblock. I have noticed an improvement to the temperature difference, roughly 4 degrees now so it seems to be adapting. Not near a heat source that would set it off. I may consider looking at the learning thermostat that has the individual sensors you can move around.
