No Wi-Fi to Nest thermostat - update

Just an update on our issues that may help others.

Earlier this week our Nest thermostat stopped connecting to Wi-Fi. I went through all the troubleshooting steps which failed to rectify the issue and came to the forums where I found many others had experienced the same issue.

I contacted Google who gave me the option of returning the faulty unit and waiting for a replacement, which would leave us with no hot water, or having a new unit sent in advance and returning the faulty unit within 21 days, otherwise I would be charged for it. I went for the latter option.

The new unit arrived the next day (yesterday) and Google sent me instructions via email of how to install this and set it up as well as how to reset and return the faulty unit. The instructions were relatively clear, enough for a novice like me to do the job in about half an hour, and the new unit is working with the old one being picked up by DHL tomorrow. None of this has cost me anything.

All in all it was relatively pain free and worth doing if you're having similar issues. Hopefully the new unit will last longer than the 9 months the last one managed.

i can back up the above. My new Nest arrived the next day, although i had to pay for it which will be reimbursed for when my faulty unit arrives back with them.

It was straightforward enough, zero issues and the fact that they did all this so quickly suggests its quite a common issue or at the very least that google like to honor warranties.

Further info, the heatlink and backing plate remained in the new box, all i had to do was switch the display and reset the existing heat-link so that it was blinking blue to be in pairing mode.
