I just installed the Nest Learning Thermostat and other than it looking nice it has a glaring omission. This is a "holiday week" and the family is home and we would like the temp to "hold" rather than set back according to my programmed schedule.
Guess where the hold function is? Exactly, nowhere. The cheap thermostat that I replaced had that feature as did every other basic programmable one I have used before. Hold until next setting, hold until xxx hours, hold for xxx days.
How does this "smart" thermostat not have a hold function? Or why does it not have the ability to store multiple schedules - like a "normal schedule" and a "work from home" schedule that you can easily toggle between?
Am I missing something here?

You can accomplish what you want by switching to Heat+Cool mode. Or if you're already in Heat+Cool mode, switch to Heat Only. You can have a different schedule for each mode. Or a schedule in one mode and none in the other mode. If you switch to a mode with no schedule, it will just stay at the set temp forever, same as a Hold function.

Thanks for the workaround - I’ll give it a try.

Thank you. Much needed. Am trying it. We've had a spell of unusually cold weather and I have had to keep overriding the "set" temp. Hopefully this change will make it more practical. Nest could have figured this out before it ever marketed a "smart!" thermostat. Thanks again. ts

Completely agree with your comments/complaints that The Learning Thermostat has no Hold is just plain dumb! And the cheaper models do have it? WTF! And the scheduling software is terrible! The UX is terrible! AND, I should be able to make changes/scheduling and all on my computer, which is an Apple. Hmmm... Wishing Apple made a smart thermostat! Maybe need to switch to Ecobee...

I've been commenting since 2018 on these forums in hopes of getting the option for a toggle between multiple preset schedules. Every basic thermostat has this feature and many users want Nest to provide it. However, the 'community specialists' only respond with canned comments like "thanks for your sharing your thoughts", "we're always looking to improve", or "we'll take this as feedback", but then nothing changes.
Google either does not know how to solve this problem (very unlikely) or they don't want to provide it but won't expound as to why.

I couldn't agree more. There are opportunities to add much more functionality to this device but for some reason Nest won't do it.

Hi folks,
Thanks for reaching out. The hold feature is already available on the Google Nest Thermostat (2020). This feature is not available for The Nest Thermostat E or Nest Learning Thermostat. The Google Nest Thermostat introduces different ways to manage temperature control for your home. When you set your Nest Thermostat to hold the temperature, it will maintain that specific temperature for as long as you want.
Thanks,
Edward

This is not helpful as it does not address the issue being discussed. Please try again.

When ALL Nest thermostats offer the hold feature then we will ALL be happy. Period.

Hi EdwardT,
Still waiting for a response that is helpful.

That was very unhelpful. Please address the actual questions/comments. Nest is a great looking thermostat and we know it holds temperature, but it lacks the capabilities above that we’re really looking for. Like a “Holiday Week” schedule that I’m dealing with now and having to change ALL of the schedules on our 3 Nest Learning Thermostats.

I have two thermostats, one for my house and one for my shop. Last year at least one of them had that feature (if not both) and this year neither one of them does and that completely sucks!

Still waiting. Its been 3 months since we heard anything

I wholeheartedly agree. We have ours in a separate office building and on days when we don't go in it would be nice to use the app to hold the temp. I thought "locking" the thermostat would do that, but that only holds the temp until the next schedule change. This has got to be possible from a programming perspective and I've seen folks asking for it for years. C'mon Google!

This is actually insane that you can’t override the schedule for a set amount of time. Whatever product manager thinks they are smarter than everyone should get caught up in the layoffs
