Dear Google Nest Team,
I am writing to express my strong interest in having a "permanent hold" feature added to older Nest thermostat models. Currently, this functionality seems to be exclusive to the 4th generation Nest, leaving those of us with earlier models at a disadvantage.
My specific situation highlights why this feature is crucial: I am a part-time resident at my property, residing there for only 4-5 months out of the year. During my extended absences, I need the ability to set a precise temperature and maintain it indefinitely without relying on the Nest's learning algorithm or temporary hold settings. This level of manual control is essential for:
* Energy Conservation: Avoiding unnecessary heating/cooling when the house is unoccupied for long periods.
* Property Protection: Maintaining a safe temperature to prevent issues like frozen pipes or excessive humidity.
* Peace of Mind: Knowing that my home's climate is under control, even when I'm away.
While I appreciate the energy-saving intent behind Nest's learning capabilities, a permanent hold option would provide greater flexibility and address the unique needs of users like myself. I urge you to consider implementing this feature across all Nest thermostat models through a firmware update.
Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Sairam Gaddam
