Permanently Disable Rush Hour Rewards on Nest Thermostats

Hi I want to PERMANENTLY disable Rush Hour rewards on all my Nest Thermostats.  Twice a year or more the option to accept Rush Hour rewards automatically displays on our Thermostats when we access the thermostat screen.  Twice now, when trying to reject the rewards, it instead accepted it!  I would like to have the option in the Nest software to permanently turn off Rush Hour rewards via a setting.  My call to a Nest Support center (overseas) was frustrating as the agent kept telling me I wasn't currently subscribed.  She had NO CLUE what I was asking.  Please someone from Google help!

Hi kbodick,

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I'm sorry that you're experiencing trouble with your Rush Hours Rewards and you're unable to turn them off permanently. I understand how frustrating it can be when you've already contacted customer service support without resolution. However, don't worry; let's work together to find a solution.

To better assist you, please answer the following questions:

  • What type of Nest Thermostat do you have? (You can visit this helpful article on how to identify your Nest Thermostat)

  • When did the situation begin?

  • Could you please provide the case ID from your Nest support interaction?

In the meantime, please try to do a factory reset on your Nest Thermostat display:

  • On the thermostat’s display, go to Settings, then Reset, and then Reset All Settings.

Important: Take a picture of your previous settings to set them up again. These steps are to determine if the message still shows, and please reject it when you follow the steps to connect back the Nest Thermostat.

Please let me know the results.

Regards,

Byron

Hi BryonP,

Thanks for your assistance.  To answer your question:

1) I have a mix of 2nd and 3rd gen Thermostats, mostly 2nd gen.

2) I've always had this issue.

3) case number is 5-281200003829

Before I do a factory reset, let me make sure you understand my question.  Every change of season, both on the Nest app and on the Thermostats directly, a screen appears asking me if I want to enroll in Rush Hour Rewards.  If someone in the house accidentally answers yes on the thermostat, then we are enrolled and we have to contact the energy company to dis-enroll.

I understand that it's being a good climate citizen to enroll, but the schedules we set up in the app pretty well do this already.

What I'm asking is a setting in the app and/or device itself to turn 'off' Rush Hour/Energy Rewards requests EVERY season.

I'm not sure what resetting the thermostats would do to fix this.  Doesn't this Rush Hour request automatically appear on the app and devices every season?  Thanks

Hi kbodick,

Thank you for your detailed response and insights into your concerns. I'm here to clarify the situation.

Regarding your first question, you're correct. Currently, there isn't a setting within the Nest app or directly on your Nest thermostats to disable Rush Hour Rewards notifications. We understand this can be disruptive, and we're always looking for ways to improve our devices and user experience. Please share your thoughts and experiences by submitting them to the feedback form, as this helps our team prioritize potential improvements in future updates.

Additionally, regarding the recurring notification each season, the most effective way to prevent it is to factory reset your Nest Thermostats. This will remove all previous settings, including the notifications of the Rush Hour Rewards enrollment and its associated notifications. When you set up your Nest thermostats again, be sure to decline any prompts or messages related to enrolling in Rush Hour Reward to avoid future notifications.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Regards,

Byron
