Please attach the display to its base

My new nest learning thermostat will not do anything other than please connect to base. It worked when I first fired it up a few hours ago and now this. I’ve followed all the recommended steps and have rest but still the same message. This is an expensive device why is it doing this?

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your inquiry. I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your new Nest Learning Thermostat. Let's sort this out.

 

  1. Make sure that your thermostat is securely connected to the base. Sometimes, a loose connection can lead to communication errors. Try reseating the thermostat on the base and ensuring it clicks into place.
  2. Inspect the 20-pin connector for any visible damage. Check both the male and female ends of the base and display. Make sure the pins are straight and in good condition.
  3. Perform a hard restart on the thermostat. Press the thermostat ring until the screen turns off (about 10 seconds). Let go of the ring. The thermostat starts to boot up when the Nest logo shows on the display.
