Preheating on during night with Max Duration set to 0

Pilar

Hi

My Nest Thermostat E turns on preheating in the middle of the night even if I have Max Duration set to 0 in True Radiant. It was working fine until 2 days ago. Is there any feature overriding this setting? I would like to have preheating on during daytime but completely off during night time.

Thanks

Hi Pilar,

Thanks for reaching out. Please make sure that the Home/Away Assist and Auto schedule features are off. Those are the smart features that might affect the behavior of the Thermostat. Once they're disabled try to monitor if the issue persists. You can check this link for more information.

Keep me posted.

Nikki

Hi,
Thanks for the answer. Actually, I have both Home/Away Assist and Auto schedule on. When the preheating is switching on the heating during night, I am AT HOME of course and the scheduling is to have the temperature at ECO level, which will never activate preheating at 4am to .

If preheating only works without autoschedule, that means that there is no target temperature at any time, so it will never start heating. On top of that, I do not understand that the way to make some feature work is to deactivate others, when it is not stated at all that they are not compatible in the instructions. If we get a smart device, expecting some smart wow, and most features are not compatible, what is its use?

In the online specs, it says that MAX DURATION only works during night time (from 8PM) and with Home/Away status AT HOME, so it does not require Home/Away assistance to be off. It also states that it overrides during night the time to heat that it uses during daytime and, in any case, this time to heat is used to get to the scheduled temperature in the Autoschedule, so it does not require Auto schedule off.

Pilar

Hi Pilar,

Thanks for the response. I'd love to know more about what's happening. Does this issue happen consistently? Also, please try checking the Nest Energy History to check the reason why your Nest Thermostat turned on your heating.

Thanks,

Edward
