Procedure to replace 3rd gen base unit

Hi 👋

I've had a Nest 3rd Gen thermostat for around 8 years or so, everything has worked fine.  Sadly the base/thermostat died recently, I heard some capacitor squel and then the display went off. I was confident it was goosed so I purchased a replacement. In the box comes a new thermostat and also a new receiver. Obviously I'll swap the thermostat. My question is do I also need to swap out the receiver? Are the thermostats and receivers uniquely paired or can I make the new thermostat talk to the old receiver? Can anyone advise please? Thanks 😀

Hello @StuartChapman

Thanks for reaching out to our Nest Community about your Nest replacement. I apologize for all the inconvenience. Don't worry, I'm here to help you with it.

I completely understand your situation. You have the option to pair this new replacement with your actual receiver; you only need to do a factory reset on the receiver and then pair this new display. You can find out how to do this in this article: How pair the Nest thermostat and Heat Link.

If you prefer to replace your current receiver with a replacement one, you have the option, but we strongly recommend that you contact a professional installer for your safety.

Please feel free to keep us informed about your situation. I will be happy to find a solution for you.

Best regards,

Douglas.
