We have the same problem with the version 4. We have it set to 70 during the day and 68 overnight. This morning it had gone down to 63. Also, should we have it “locked” or “unlocked “? It goes back and forth between the two without us touching the thermostat.
the thermostat says it will go to 70 in 30 minutes but it has been 66 all afternoon and evening and hasn’t gone up at all.

Can you tell me what actions you have taken to identify the root cause of the inefficiencies of heating? Also, what is the primary source of heat for your home?

We have gas powered forced air heating system that always worked well with our previous nest. We also have a fairly new router and we were unable to confirm that the password was correct.
The instructions weren’t consistent with what we were seeing on Google Home.when checking the activity of the nest, the heat would come on for a few minutes and then turn off. Right the nest 62 degrees.

@Marcybeth , if a gas furnace turns on then within a minute or so it shuts off, then on all likely hood there is a problem with the furnace itself. When Nest thermostat calls for heat the display turns orange. If it remains orange when the gas furnace turns off, then thermostat is still working fine.
The typical heating cycle for a gas furnace is first. The induction fan turns on, once it proves, there’s no leaks, it turns on the igniter, and then turns on the gas valve. Once it ignites the flames sensor verifies that the gas is burning and everything’s OK. If it does not detect a flame, it immediately shuts off. if the flame sensor is dirty, for example, after about a minute, it turns it all off and starts the whole cycle again

Thanks for your help, but we are tech-challenged seniors who can’t really follow the instructions. We are due for an HVAC checkup anyway, so we’ll call them in the morning and try to get them out here tomorrow.
