Removing the app for Nest Gen 1 - basically sabotage!

So, Google, you are basically sabotaging my thermostat and trying to force an upgrade? Not going to happen. What WILL happen is that you will lose a customer who will now do everything possible to warn others about the dangers of buying your products.

What annoys me is that controlling the thermostat with the app is core functionality that was sold as a key feature (and as an inducement to buy) the product in the first place. My thermostat is literally the other end of my house.

I understand not supporting updates, like old versions of operating systems, but why disable the app altogether? My Gen 1 and the app are working perfectly.

Once again, built in obsolescence with new models being forced on customers who don’t need them, not to mention the unnecessary waste of resources through your supposed ‘help to recycle’ scheme.

Last time I will buy a Google product.

We are also very unhappy with this news. Why would we change our device that is working perfectly fine!!!! They say they can help us recycle it. I can assure you that we will never recommend your product to anyone nor buy a new device. It’s completely RIDICULOUS. What a way to treat your customers.

Unbelievable and unacceptable treatment of customers. Absolutely will not purchase products from this company again. Just on principle.

Google haven't gotten any money out of the people that bought their products from Nest, prior to them selling out to Google. They also want you to pay to put another one of their microphones (voice commands) in your home, to go with the security cameras that always show the "being watched externally" light. With a new app there are far more inter-app backdoor traffic paths and app tracking to go with ever encroaching permissions. Another step down the path toward a surveillance state that the sheep are happily trotting down, and paying for the privilege. You are right, but the sabotage is shortsighted, it is far worse than just that.
