Replacing battery in 1st gen.Learning Nest

Arnnad
Community Member

My Nest is showing low battery signals, has episodes of spontaneous temp. spikes and drops internet connection. I've considered installing the power booster at the furnace but if the battery is dying anyway wouldn't the power booster only be a temporary fix? I know replacement batteries are available but would I have to be an electrician to  do the job?

Thanks for your help.

Hey Arnnad,

Thanks for reaching out and sorry for the delayed response.

Your Nest thermostat has an internal battery that is charged by your system sending power over the wires connected to it. If there is a problem and your thermostat can’t get enough power, the internal battery can drain. In this case, your thermostat may turn off the screen and disconnect from Wi-Fi so it can continue controlling your system. The best way to have this addressed is to add a C wire or a Nest Power Connector to have consistent power to your thermostat.

Also, you cannot replace the batteries for the Nest Thermostat E or Nest Learning Thermostat. Instead, charge the thermostat with a USB cable.
