Schedlue not working on 3rd Gen nest

Suddenly, my Nest won't set the schedule off to heat when we want. I've reset the schedule, factory reset the Nest, ensured the device is linked to google home..... It's still saying the room is heated to a temperature, without having kicked in.

I can still operate the heating from my app.

Someone help me out please?

What you’re describing usually means the Nest thinks it’s already at or above the target temp, so it won’t call for heat. A couple things to check:

  • Check the sensors → On the Nest itself, compare the displayed room temperature vs. an actual thermometer. If the Nest is reading too high, it won’t fire the boiler.
  • Eco/Auto-Schedule → Make sure Eco mode or “True Radiant” isn’t overriding. Go to Settings → Eco and Settings → Nest Sense.
  • Wiring test → In the Nest app or device, run “Equipment → Test.” This forces a call for heat to confirm wiring/relay is good.
  • Schedule vs. Hold → If you’ve set a schedule but the app shows “Hold,” it’ll stay locked. Clear any holds.
  • Boiler check → If you hear the Nest click/relay engage but boiler doesn’t fire, issue may be at the boiler or Heat Link.

I've worked through the suggestions above and true radiant is off, the test fires the boiler and there are no holds. I don't currently have a thermometer but I can say that the temperature is in keeping with what we believe it to... but the the temperature falls(in the morning) below the schedule temperature.  Nothing happens

Hi @Aldo1000,

Thank you for reaching out to the Google Nest Community. I'm sorry to hear your Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd gen is not working as expected when setting the Schedule for heating. I appreciate your effort in completing the troubleshooting steps. I understand how frustrating this must be. I'm glad to help.

Thank you for your help @Mosesreza.

To provide you with the most accurate and effective troubleshooting steps, I need a little more information. Could you please answer the following questions?

  • When did the issue start?
  • When did you install the thermostat?
  • Where did you install your thermostat (e.g., in a room, on a wall, or on a stand)?
  • Do you see any error codes on the screen of the thermostat or in the app?
  • Any recent changes to the HVAC system?
  • Any recent power outages or power issues?

If you have any additional details that might be helpful, feel free to share them with me.

Regards,

Gabriela

Hi

Im not even exactly sure when the issue started, only that now the weather has gotten cooler, the schedule not working is noticeable. It certainly worked last winter however.

We had the thermosstat installed around 3 years ago and its been perfect. Its always been in a cool room, on a stand and worked without issue. We have had no changes to our heating system and no power surges or outages that Im aware of.

There are no error codes a d as mentioned before, The heating will come on when either the thermostat or the app are used to change the temperature.

Hi @Aldo1000,

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my questions and for providing me with the details about your Nest Thermostat. I'm happy to keep working with you to find a solution.

Could you please answer the following questions about the HVAC system?

  • When was the last maintenance service and cleaning?
  • Is this the first time you’re calling for heating this year?
  • Did the cooling work without issues in the summer?
  • Did you experience this behavior when you created a schedule for cooling?

If you have any additional details that might be helpful, feel free to share them with me.

Regards,

Gabriela

Hi Gabriela

The fact the schedule hasn't worked as the weather has gotten cooler was the first we had noticed it about it not working.

The boiler has been mentinained as per its schedule, the last time onky a few months ago. Dont forget however, the heat works fine manually. Merely the schedule that doesn't work.

Regards cooling. We never use it for cooling, its for heating only. Mainland UK residence so we don't have I the tech to cool a house.

I'd be grateful for other advice as to a fix for this now very persistent problem.

Thanks

Hi @Aldo1000,

Thank you for the update and for sharing this important information. I am happy to continue assisting you.

Please review the following settings on both your Nest Thermostat and the Nest app.

Is there a water drop on the screen? This means hot water or bacteria prevention is activated. The icon for hot water boost is different from the icon for Bacteria Prevention Thermostat bacteria prevention icon.

I recommend checking for any active Auto-Schedules or manually set points for hot water.

  1. Heating Schedule:
  • In the Nest App: Open the Nest app → Select the thermostat → Select Schedule.
  • On the Display: Press the ring for Quick View → Select Schedule.
  1. Hot Water Schedule:
  • In the Nest App: Open the Nest app → Select the thermostat → Select Hot Water → Select Schedule.
  • On the Display: Press the ring for Quick View → Select Settings → Select Hot Water schedule.

To make changes to your hot water schedule directly on the thermostat:

  1. From the Quick View menu, select Settings.
  2. Select Hot Water schedule.
  3. Choose Enable, Disable, or Edit to make your adjustments.

Let me know what you find after you check these settings.

Regards,

Gabriela
