We are trying to install a second Nest Thermostat and need (according to the setup screen as we go along) a "free power connector." We needed this connector for the first Nest we installed and successfully ordered it for free on Monday.
Today despite the Home app prompting me to order my "free power connector" the Google Store is charging us for it.
After extensive chats with 3 Google reps, I was told that the free power connector is one per household.
Nowhere in the app or the checkout screen does it say one per household.
We would like a coupon for our second free power connector.

Do you have any extra wires in the cable you can use for a C wire? Then you don't need the power connector.

No - the thermostat wire was run about 40+ years ago, it appears, and there are only 2 leads. I heard somewhere there is a simpler solution to this than pulling a new wire, some kind of power connector they will send you for free...

Agreed, I have the same situation. This is not as advertised nor as guaranteed by all the product setup and compatibility guidelines that say the nest is compatible with my (second) thermostat system. Yes, I bought a home with two separate furnaces.

All modern smart thermostats require a R+ and C- to maintain constant 24V AC power to the thermostat.
These are actually mini computers and need to have clean stable power otherwise they will not stay connected to the WiFi and will drain the internal backup battery.
It is in you best interest to replace the thermostat cable with the modern 5 conductor cable so you are future proofing yourself when you want to replace the heating/air system or replace the Nest with another smart thermostat.

@Janicezazinski, while we don't support promo redemption inquiries, we can point you in the right direction. Our friends at Google Store are the perfect folks to help you with it.
