Set a Hot Water schedule using less than 30min increments

My 3rd Gen Nest controls the heat to my hot water cylinder via a system boiler. Everything is mechanically fine. However the Nest App will only allow a schedule based on 30min increments. On the face of it I can use the "clock' input to select 8:00 - 8:45 but that input won't "take". It will result in a 60 min schedule entry of 8:00 - 9:00.

I don't quite need a 60min blast but 30mins isn't enough. Why can't I set water to heat for say, 40 or 45 or 50 mins - I feel like I'm wasting gas because of a fancy digital interface with no flexibility to it.

Hi @Merseyhoop,

Thank you very much for sharing this information about what you've been experiencing with the hot water, regarding the programming you typically use. I understand that you'd like to use it for 45 or 50 minutes, for example. Currently, we don't have that exact feature. Therefore, I'd like to share a feedback form where you can put your suggestions and share your experience.

Keep me post.

Best regards,

Eduardo

Thank you - I've fed that back. This is a pretty poor situation though, I'm having to run my boiler for about 10 to 20 mins longer than is necessary every day, that's a lot of pollution and cost that a digital timer should NOT be causing.

Hi @Merseyhoop,

You're welcome, and thank you for the feedback. We understand your frustration regarding the boiler timer issue. We recognize that even a 10 to 20 minute daily over-run can lead to significant energy waste, increased costs, and unnecessary pollution.

We agree that a digital timer should function reliably and accurately. The fact that it's not meeting this expectation is unacceptable. We are taking your feedback seriously and are actively investigating the root cause of this problem.

Best regards,

Eduardo
