Setup Issues: Nest Learning Thermostat 3 (“Please remove…” and “Please attach…” on repeat.)

When connected to the Base, my Nest Learning Thermostat 3 unit keeps stating “Please remove the thermostat from its base, then reattach it.” When removed, it immediately says “Please attach the display to its base.” This repeats indefinitely.

When I press and hold down on the unit, it says “The thermostat is resetting. Back in a bit.” bit when I release, the above cycle starts again.

When I cut the power to the furnace/thermostat, the unit briefly reads “Your thermostat's date and time are incorrect.” and then “The thermostat is shutting down.”

Some things I have tried (from answers to similar posts) that have not changed the above described behavior:

- Charged thermostat externally via the micro USB port (1 hr, 2hrs, overnight)

- Installed a Nest Power Connector

- Moved Rh wire to Rc

- Removed C wire

- Confirmed no damage to base-thermostat port and pins

Thanks for any help or advice you can provide.
