Thermostat battery going low when using AC

So like others my thermostat battery will get weak and it will lose wifi. But ONLY when using AC. Never in the winter. I purchased a power connector then saw that my system has no labeled wires or circuit board. Does anyone have any advice? I also noticed my tstat reporting 39v however the power connector states its only for 24v systems. I'm a bit lost. Maybe it's not wired correctly? It does work perfectly however and has been installed for 1.5 years. Thanks.

Hi Jonshouse

Thanks for posting in our community, it seems like you might be having a inconvenience with your thermostat, let’s get into .

  • Ensure that the Thermostat is charged to 3.8 V or more: Verify this in the thermostat settings > technical information > battery.
  • Charge your thermostat with USB:  You can use the USB port on the back of your thermostat to charge it up when the battery is low (if the Thermostat is not showing the recommended level,  try to charge up the device for about 2 hours and ensure that the Thermostat is receiving enough power)

Best regards,

Daniel.

I have done this multiple times. It will drain again in a few weeks.

Thank you for keeping me updated. I have additional information for you that would be useful.

Nest thermostats usually pull power from your HVAC system's wires.  A special wire, called a C-wire, gives your thermostat constant power, so it relies less on those internal batteries.  If your Nest wasn't wired with a C-wire, the batteries might be draining way faster than they should.

I hope this helps,

Daniel

Yes. I have read way too much about a c wire. I bought a nest power connector however the instructions say to hook it up to the circuit board. I do not have a circuit board. See my first post and photos please.

Hi Jonshouse,

Thanks for letting me know. It looks like connecting the Nest Power Connector might be a trickier task. Don't worry; our recommended technicians would be happy to help you out with that.

Regards,

Daniel.
