Hello , I just started getting this message in my thermostat “ Your system will start soon. Turning it off and on too soon can cause equipment damage” I restarted the thermostat and no luck.

Hi @DannyCasillas48

This message is a protective, built-in delay often called a compressor protection timer typically lasting 2-5 minutes. It prevents rapid cycling (turning on/off too quickly) that can burn out your HVAC compressor, which is a major point of failure.

You might typically see the delay whenever the unit turns off and is trying to start again. To preserve the health of the compressor it adds this buffer to equalize pressure in the system.

Don't force start or restart the thermostat, you need to allow the timer to complete. Forcing the system on can cause significant damage to the compressor.

If it happens often, I'd recommend checking your air filter, ensure your system is properly wired (including a C-wire if needed), and check for a dirty condensate drain line. It's also worth checking if you could be experiencing repeated momentary power loss. If you're not comfortable doing those things, I'd recommend contacting a local HVAC professional to check your system.
