I want to allow users to change the temperature but not fiddle around with the settings. The lock facility appears to provide this functionality. The manual says: 'When you lock your Nest thermostat in heat mode or cool mode, you'll set a temperature range after you create a four-digit PIN. Anyone can turn the thermostat's ring to change the temperature within the range that you've set, but they won't be able to set the temperature outside of your range or change any of your settings.'
However it doesn't work correctly. When locked, attempts to change the temperature fail and are met with a request to unlock. That is, instead of allowing temperature changes within the set range, all user interaction is blocked. This is contrary to the specification.
May I please request a software change to correct this bug.

Thanks for this. What we want is a bugfix, which unfortunately this reply doesn't provide.

Hello folks,
I wanted to stop by and see how I could help.
Thanks for sharing the help center article, @MplsCustomer!
@PapaGolf, I understand that when the lock feature is enabled, it only allows control within the temperature range and should not go beyond the page. To ensure it syncs with the changes, please try restarting your thermostat to refresh it and ensure it is on software version 3.0 or later.
Please let me know how it goes.
Regards,
Mark

Using a Nest Learning Thermostat, the lock facility appears not to work to specification.
I want my guests to be free to set the temperature they wish, within limits, while not fiddling with other settings. So I have locked the thermostat with range 14 - 27 degrees Celsius. However instead of allowing this range, the stat prevents any adjustment whatsoever, and asks for the unlock PIN. This is not the intention. Or am I missing something?

Hello Jake. I have read the article, thanks, and retried lock. I set lock using Settings within the Nest app. I set a PIN and a range 14-27degC and pressed 'Lock'. I turned the stat to increase the temperature. it showed 'Enter PIN to unlock' and refused instruction. I pressed the stat to access other functions. It showed the same message. So the problem persists. Can you help?
Kind regards, Papa Golf

Hello,
I am really keen to sort this out. I feel I can't lock the Nest stat completely, preventing guests from setting their preferred appropriate temperatures. On the other hand I am loath to leave all the settings open to inexpert hands which could mess things up for other guests. The previous programmable stat handled this better.
Kind regards, Papa Golf

Hello Jake,
Yes, I believe the thermostat is still not working to specification and I would like to have this fixed. A workaround has been suggested, but I will not be able to try it for a few weeks as the thermostat is in our holiday cottage.
Kind regards, Peter Gilmour
