Thermostat not connecting to assisting device (for nest app set up)

Danak
Community Member

I bought 3 thermostats. Successfully linked 1 to nest app.  For the other 2 it says “something went wrong” the app is having trouble connecting to the assisting nest product. For the first one it connected thru my smoke alarm and for these other 2 it is trying to connect thru a thermostat (according to the icon on my phone). I have restarted, made sure thermostat is connected to wifi, and scanned the qr code successfully. So frustrating not to be able to get a live person on the phone.

How to connect the thermostat to the Wi-Fi before we adding it to the Google home, I keep getting that they can’t connect the thermostat when I’m trying to add it

Hi there,

@Danak, I'm sorry for the trouble this may have caused you. I'd love to help.

You can try these steps:

  1. Restart both joining and assisting devices.
    1. Go to the actual thermostat that is already on the account (Assisting device).
    2. Go to the Settings then look for Reset then choose Restart and do the same process on the thermostat you want to add. (Joining device).
  2. Once the thermostat is back, try to add the thermostat again in the Nest App.
    1. If you're already on the page asking about "Choose the number that matches your thermostat display" go to your joining device then pull out the display from its base then move it beside on your assisting device.
    2. Proceed by selecting the number that matches your thermostat display. Then, follow the prompt.

Please let me know how it goes. Also, you can visit this article for more information.

Best,

Jenelyn

Hi folks,

@Danak, I wanted to follow up and see if you still need help. Please let me know if you're still having any concerns or questions from here, as I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.

@Ro6, for you to be able to connect your Nest Thermostat to the Wi-Fi, you have to go through with the setup process first in the Google Home app. Try to remove the batteries of your thermostat for 3 minutes. Uninstall and reinstall the app before you proceed with the setup process.

Best,

Jenelyn
