Thermostat temperature goes down

Wenbrown

The thermostat was installed today. The heat is turned on but the temperature keeps dropping.  Auxiliary heat has come on but the temperature goes down instead of increasing.  Is it because of the low temperatures?

My HVAC is new & was replaced in August of 2024

It is possible that low outdoor temperatures are impacting the efficiency of our heating system, especially if it is a heat pump. However, the temperature dropping even with auxiliary heat suggests there may be an issue with the thermostat settings, the system itself, or airflow. Also, if you are using a room air cooler nearby, it could be counteracting the heat by cooling the air at the same time. You might want to check that the cooler is turned off while heating or adjust its settings to avoid this conflict.

Hi @Wenbrown

Thank you for reaching out to the community! I understand you're having some issues with your heating system, specifically that it's not working properly. I know this can be frustrating, but don't worry! I'm here to help.

Before we proceed with troubleshooting, I need some more information to give you the most accurate guidance.

  • What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?
  • When did this issue first start?
  • Have you noticed any other unusual symptoms since the problem began?
  • Are there any error messages displayed on the thermostat or in the Nest App? If so, what are the exact messages?
  • Does this issue occur only with heating, only with cooling, or with both?
  • Is this the first time you've used heating or cooling this season? (For example, transitioning from winter to spring)
  • Have you experienced any recent power outages in the last few days or weeks?

Once I have this information, I'll be able to assist you further!

Best regards,
Debora
