True radient starts preheating way too early

Hello,

A few months back, I installed a Nest Learning Thermostat in my appartment. I turned on true radient since it seemed nice to have the home warmed up or at least already warming up when i get back from work.

I have set the schedule to be 21,5C at 5pm, however now I've started noticing that it starts preheating at 12pm (noon). This seems way too early since it reaches the 21,5C at around 2.30pm. This seems like a big gas waste to me.

I tried turning the preheat hours down to 2, 1 and 0 but I read that only has an effect during nighttime.

Has anyone else been experiencing this? What are my options? I am thinking the following:
- Turn off Radient Heating and just schedule it to 21,5C at e.g. 4pm (an hour before I get home). However this doesn't seem logical since heating in winter and summer takes longer/shorter.
- Resetting the nest to (re)learn how long it takes to heat up?

Any other options/ideas/fixes?

Thanks in advance!

Hi @st2299,

Thank you for posting here in the community. I'm sorry that the True Radiant option is not turning on as expected. Help's here!

To gather more information, I'd like to ask a few questions:

  • When was the Nest thermostat installed?
  • What is the make and model of your heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment?
  • Is the display seated? Is it properly clicked into the base?
  • Are all the wires firmly seated into the terminals? (No loose or exposed wires.)
  • Was the Nest thermostat recently reset to factory defaults?

Here are some additional things to check:

  • Check if the thermostat and the Nest app are up-to-date. Settings > Choose Software > Update.
  • Confirm that all exterior doors and windows are closed. Open doors or windows can make it harder to reach the desired temperature.
  • Double check the Max Duration: Settings > Nest Sense > True Radiant > Max Duration.
    • Note: If Max Duration is set to 0 hours, pre-conditioning will start within the last hour. (Example: schedule a set point of 20°C at 7:30 with max duration set to 0, and the system will come on after 06:30, depending on time-to-temperature calculations.)

I hope this helps.

Best regards,

Jenniffer
