Upon charging via usb, Nest states "please attach the display to its base", when doing so shuts down

I connected the wiring as directed, charged the thermostat (displays a green blinking light), then the thermostat says "please attach the display to its base".  Upon doing so the thermostat emits a snamp once seated on the base then blinks yellow and green.  There is a blue line that circles the display while it powers up to then display the message: "date and time are incorrect".  Upon attempting any function the unit displays "powering down" and turns off.

Please advise, thanks

Hi @jssd01,

Thanks for posting here in the community. I'd be happy to help you with this display's message.

To gather more information, I'd like to ask a few questions:

  • What is the model of your Nest thermostat?
  • Is this a new Nest thermostat or a replacement device?
  • How long did you charge the Nest thermostat with a USB cable?
  • Do you have another active Nest thermostat of the same generation?

Also, I suggest performing the following:

  • Reseat the Nest thermostat display.
  • Check that the wires are properly connected and fully inserted into the terminals.
  • Make sure that the wires are flat on the base.
  • Make sure the 20-pin connectors on the display are straight and in good condition.
  • Restart your Nest thermostat.

You can refer to the next article for additional guidance: Nest thermostat stuck during startup.

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Jenniffer
