Using Temperature Probe and Nest Learning Thermostat to separately control heating and cooling

I just started using a Nest Leaning Thermostat to control radiator heating from my boiler. There is a separate AC system, that's controlled from a different thermostat on a different floor. Can I replace that separate AC thermostat with the Nest Temperature probe and set up the Nest thermostat to control AC from the temp provided by the probe and heating by the temperature as measured by the thermostat?

Alternatively, since we're never be using heating and cooling at the same time, could I simply switch over to the temperature probe when the cooling season starts?

Hello cfosp1,

Thanks for reaching out. It's great that you're exploring ways to optimize your home climate control with the Nest Learning Thermostat.

The Nest Temperature Sensor is designed to work with the Nest Thermostat E or the Nest Learning Thermostat. If you have one of these compatible thermostats, you should be able to use the Nest Temperature Sensor to measure the temperature in a specific room and have the thermostat adjust accordingly. However, it's important to note that the Nest Temperature Sensor is primarily designed for the Nest Thermostat's use and may not be directly interchangeable with other thermostats or HVAC systems.

As for switching between the Nest Thermostat and the temperature probe during different seasons, Nest Thermostats are generally capable of managing both heating and cooling systems.

Let us know if you have more questions.

Best regards,
