What is Happening to the Nest Product?

I have always loved Nest products. I invested heavily in their products purchasing their learning thermostats, Nest Protects, and IQ cameras. 
However, ever since the Google acquisition, I’ve noticed a declining trend with respect to product quality. Nest products went from sturdy die-cast and glass to flimsy cheap plastics. I was looking to upgrade the original 1st generation nest thermostat and the newest thermostat seems poorly designed and made compared to the original. Meanwhile the price point remains the same or is more expensive. 
Has anyone else noticed this?
