Wifi chip died on my Nest Learning Thermostat (3) after less than a year

I have an RMA on the way to replace my broken thermostat, but this gives me great concern as if this had happened while I was on vacation, all my fish would have been cooked in the Texas heat. Are these thermostats not reliable? Do they fail every year? What's the point of all this technology if you cannot count on it???

Turns out my Nest is at software version 6.2-27 which I have seen other's say knocked out their WiFi as well. Does this mean they sent an update that bricked the WiFi chip of many users? Since WiFi is toast no way to update to a fix? RMA it???

I need to know if the hardware failed on it's own or if the update killed it.

My Nest updated to 6.2-27 couple of weeks ago, and it's also got bricked, can't find any networks. How many others have had their Nest Thermostat bricked after that latest update?

Having this issue too -- I want to say the update was in April. I thought my e103 was a voltage issue, but I have two identical setups.  Did I read right that this thing has a 3 year warranty? Like a silly person I ordered a replacement.

it was NOT the nest base, but the compressor. new one , and 300 bucks later all is well.
