I have a GEN 2 Nest Thermosthat and our cable provider has sometimes brief outages or just blips. This has nothing to do with our electric service as that stays on. It comes from the Cable TV outfit that supplies our internet. The Nest goes offline and mostly it does not find the network and reconnect or it may, after quite a few hours. It is worrysome when you are away on vacation and you see equipment off line . Will the temperature the Nest was set to hold when the internet is off be held, or will it continue to get colder without wi-fi? (I am able to look via both the Nest and Google Home app. The resuts are the same.

Are you using the ISP equipment (modem/wireless router)?
If your cable service drops but the equipment stays on, the thermostat should not lose its WiFi connection.
If the equipment also loses power or is reset, it will drop the WiFi connection. It should reconnect eventually, but depending on the type of equipment, it might take some time.
The best practice is to have all of the network equipment on a battery backup (UPS) so power outages are less likely to happen to the equipment

In these cases the electric power coming into the house is not interrupted. It is the loss or bump from the CATV provider's internet that gives me the problem. I have though, sent people to my home to verify the furnace was sending heat out, which is my biggest worry. Air quality monitor, smoke and Co alarms, cameras etc. become unreachable along with this. A bit of a spoiler when I'm far away from home.
Many thanks.

It sounds like you have a network problem since most of your devices become unreachable.
There are smart power receptacles that will power cycle your cable modem if they sense a loss of internet connection.
Best to contact your cable provider and open a repair ticket.
