Can a 4th generations Google Nest thermostat replace (work) a XL824 Trane thermostat?

Yes, it can.

Give this a try.

White -W1 to W1

Green - G to G

Yellow - Y1 to Y1

Blue - B/C to C

Red - Rh to Rc (jumper to RC not needed)

Yes, the Nest can replace the XL824 Trane, but wiring might differ a bit checking compatibility first helps. Also, some setup tips are available on Winbuzz Login for smoother installation.
