heater causes carrier unit to have code 33, starts blowing cold air

I’m having a heating issue with my Nest thermostat that usually occurs at night. During the day everything works fine. In the middle of the night, the furnace will fire (natural gas), then shut down with an error code 33 (Carrier Unit), then run with fan only (no heat).  I have to go up in the attic and turn the power to the furnace off, wait about 20 seconds, then turn it back on.  Then it works.

This only started happening after I installed a Google nest, a few weeks ago.  Didn't happen with my old thermostat.  So I don't think anything is wrong with the furnace.

I'm thinking I may have to go back to my non-smart thermostat.

Anybody??
