how do determine alt heat setting for heat pump

Hi, we just had a heat pump installed with dual heat option (i.e. inside gas furnace) and I'm trying to figure out if there's a way to determine what the right programming should be for alt heat in the Nest. Reading about heat pumps online there's some indication that they become less efficient at 40degC. The documentation I was able to find on our model just says the operating range is down to -22degF, but does not have any efficiency curve. The installer programmed it to 30degF. Just wondering if anyone had anymore science behind this, thanks.

Hi zaphod,

Thanks for reaching out. I'd love to know more about this. Could you share a photo of your current thermostat's wiring?

Thanks,
Mel
