just installed older nest thermostat with a new furnace and a/c - can I use Google Home?

Hi, 

I bought a NEST thermostat a few years ago but just installed it when I had a new furnace and a/c installed. Do I use the Nest app or Google home? I can change the temp in the Google home app but I can't find a way to program it. Any suggestions? It appears I have the Nest Thermostat E.

If it's one of these models, you won't be able to set it up with the app anymore unfortunately as Google ended support for these models on October 25, 2025.

  • Nest Learning Thermostat (1st gen, 2011)
  • Nest Learning Thermostat (2nd gen, 2012)
  • Nest Learning Thermostat (2nd gen, Europe version, 2014)
