I tried to setup in google home, but when it asked for thermostat code the unit would not display anything. It just says continue with setup. I cannot get pas t this screen. The touch bar on the side does not do anything.

If it has a touch bar on the side, you have the Nest Thermostat (2020). Are you trying to do the setup in the Google Home app and not the Nest app? I'll link the setup steps below.
