says it’s cooling but it’s actually heating

Just wired everything correctly yet when I turn the air on it heats instead.  Our system is a heat pump and there is multiple zones not sure if that’s an issue.  Anyone have an idea on what to do next?

Do you have a common wire connected?

Yes I do

I’d disconnect the wires for cooling and star with just the heat side and fan. See if that works then if you hook up the wire for ac  and it does the same thing you may have a bad thermostat wire or bad thermostat

You should share the picture of the wiring you did.

Give this a try.

If your system starts to blow cool air when your Nest thermostat is in Heat mode (or if it blows warm air when it's in Cool mode), change the settings for orientation of your heat pump.
The instructions depend on which thermostat you have.
Select the thermostat you have:

Nest Thermostat
  1. Reset your thermostat. Go to Settings > Factory Reset
  2. Begin thermostat setup with the Google Home app again. On the main screen, tap + > Set up a Nest product.
  3. Re-enter all the wires connected to your thermostat. Double-check that you account for any unconfigured wires.
Nest Learning Thermostat and Thermostat E
  1.  On your thermostat, go to Settings.
  2. Select Equipment.
  3. Select Continue Patrick_Caezza_5-1646019017030.png

     Continue.
  4. Select Heat Pump.
  5. The Nest Thermostat defaults to an O setting for heat
    pumps.
    • If the O option is highlighted, select B.
    • If the B option is highlighted, select O.
  6. Test your heating and cooling again to make sure the issue is resolved.
