I've had this issue for a while.

your thermostat needs to shut down to recharge its battery

I get this message just after the thermostat shows the home logo and then goes off.

I can not do anything with the product to get into settings it will stay on for maybe 10 seconds. I'm at a loss what needs to be done it may need replacing? Any help welcome

Good morning

This has now been resolved. I had tried all of the above a few times but still nothing changed. In the end I spoke to the help chat online and got a replacement.

All is working great now. One thing I would say is you have to reset the heat link a load of time for the display to connect to it but it does in the end.

Hello blackaces,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community.

I’m sorry to hear that you're having issues with the Nest Learning Thermostat. Let’s check it out.

A few questions: what country are you located in? Is this a new installation? Did you notice any error codes on the display? Also, are there any recent power outages or electrical work done in the house?

Please try the steps below:

  1. Remove the thermostat display from its base and check if any connector pins are bent.
  2. Check if the thermostat wires are secured in their terminals and all the buttons are down.
  3. Connect the thermostat display to a micro-USB adapter and a USB charger.
  4. Leave the display plugged in for 1 hour, and then check if any light appears on the display.
  5. If the display turns on, connect the display to the base and check for any errors.
  6. If the display doesn’t turn on after charging for an hour, the battery isn’t taking a charge.

Here’s a guide on how to troubleshoot when your thermostat won’t turn on.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

Lance

I am also having this issue. The thermostat is less than a year old. I have removed and charged it to no avail. Wasn’t having this issue until about 8 months in.

Hi everyone,

@MiraTera, thanks for being a step ahead of us. To confirm, were you able to try using a different charger or charge it directly to the power outlet? Does your Nest Thermostat have any blinking light? If yes, what is the color of it?

@blackaces, I just want to check if you managed to see and try the troubleshooting steps listed above. Please let us know how it goes.

I appreciate the help, Lance.

Regards,

Jenelyn

I tried a different charger. No blinking light.

Good morning

If youve tried all the troubleshooting and nothing has changed like myself. Get yourself in touch with the help desk chat and they go through it with you and if it's like me they will replace the unit.
