14150.376.32 firmware - connection drop outs

sulaimana
Community Member

It's frustrating whenever google releases updates to its mesh devices, it brings a lot of issues and it won't be fixed immediately. 14150.376.32 update was installed silently onto all my devices(nest wifi and google wifi routers). I observed connection drops very frequently, so decided to power cycle all the routers, it didnt resolve the issues. I have now done the factory reset of all devices and reinstalled the whole mesh unfortunately it has not resolved the issues. Connection dropouts, routers going offline on the android app, but white steady connection light on the routers. awful devices. I have invested quite a lot of money n time, but still no steady mesh set-up. F**** you google

Hey folks,

Thanks for posting — let's see what's going on.

Are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)? How many devices are dropping from the network? Also, do you have any paused devices?

Give these steps a try:

  1. If you're using a modem/router combo, set that to bridge mode to avoid double NAT issues.
  2. Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.
  3. Remove any special characters in your network name and password.
  4. Turn off IPv6.
  5. Set a custom DNS at 8.8.8.8 on the primary and 8.8.4.4 on the secondary server. Hit the save/ floppy disk icon on the upper right.
  6. Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes.
  7. If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Mel

@Jhonleanmel  You can close my case.  My wife and I rely on the internet for work so I bought a competitors system, sold my Google system and the issues are gone.  Hopefully the new owner of my Google system does not have the same issues.

all I see is worthless insincere comments from Google. No meaningful updates when this POS firmware update is either rolled back or updated with a fix.

Hello all,

Thanks - I hope there's a fix down the road soon. I ended up returning mine and used an updated open source firmware on an older router. I'll say this, not happy with this turn out, the lackadaisical response, I wished I could've waited it out, but this has affected wired devices too.

At least the devices are being updated. They're not being updated well, but hey, attack vectors on home networking equipment such as routers and or cable modems skyrocketed since COVID. Granted, if your router can't "Internet" there's not much of a danger to the internal network 😄 Security!

Already got so frustrated with my wifi dropping & my, also Google, expensive cameras going offline & my works with Google Philips Hue lights to stop operating that I purchased an Orbi mesh router and suffered through factory resetting my nest devices and now have a STABLE Wifi system. I'll be thinking long and hard before turning over any $'s to purchase Google products again.  You can also close my case

Having similar issues myself, started with this firmware update. Network drops 5-10 times a day for a few mins. I’ve factory reset, the only other item I have in line is a modem, no other router setup. Is this going to be resolved? Otherwise I need to find a new mesh system

@rob772, I'm glad that you haven't had issues since factory resetting your network.

@Trainsaw, give these steps a try:

  5. Change your DNS server into 8.8.8.8 on the primary and 8.8.4.4 on the secondary server. Hit the save/ floppy disk icon on the upper right.
  6. Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Mel

I still had numerous issues with dropouts after factory resetting my wifi hence I gave up fighting my routers issues and went with a different Router manufacturer and now have a stable, fast wireless network. Add me to those who've left Google Nest Mesh WiFi for much, much greener pastures. @rob772

After doing all the "fixes" "suggested my wife and I decided to send our Google Nest mesh wifi to the recycle electronics depot. I am no longer using the router & hopefully the recycle depot shredded it so no one else suffers it flawed operation.

Hi - I've been having the same stability issues for the past week.  Thought it was my main hub router, and replaced it yesterday.  Still unreliable.  Google - you have a bad firmware patch on your hands here, with release 14150.376.32.  Please roll back our firmware to the previous release, and fix this release before you roll it out again.  You just killed a whole bunch of customers with a single piece of sloppy programming.  The fact that your customers can't simply "roll back" to the last stable firmware release makes this not only negligence, but malicious negligence.  Finally, the fact that this is coming at the same time as a new release of your product sounds a lot like a planned obsolescence conspiracy, which will be a VERY expensive class action suit.  Please get your sh*t together here, ASAP.

Can you say if these issues have been sent to engineers for possible resolution with future firmware. It’s not sustainable to have network drop 5-10 times a day and work. The lack of real engagement with this group signals that it won’t be resolved soon

Well I gave up, tried everything I could and found online to get my google wifi working again but it just had too many issues.  I work from home and use a VoIP phone and the drop outs were very frustrating.  I finally gave in and bought a TP Link deco and guess what. No issues.  I've been a google advocate from the beginning and even talked several people into getting google wifi.  Just hope they aren't having the issues I was having.

anybody want to purchase 3 google wifi pucks??  😂

Google .. any update on a fix ... I submitted form but having random internet drops is beyond frustrating when you are trying to work from home and/or stream television. This has been going on for way too long to not release a fix.

It's been months .. why so long on a fix .. or maybe a rollback... People rely on their internet to work remotely and for a lot of daily functions .. this should not take this long.

Also experiencing this issue! Still no fix after 1 month? I've also filled out the form...

Disabling IPv6 and changing DNS doesn't seem to solve the issue. I haven't done a factory reset as it seems to not achieve anything for anybody in this thread. Agree with previous comments about rolling back the firmware - please consider doing that!

Same issue. Everything was working fine before the last firmware release.

Could you please allow us to install the last working version? We won’t able to use our device correctly and you are not priorizing to solve our problem.

Please first roll back this firmware and do your research on your own test devices.

Once again, google giving a #%#% to the customers, and on the news that is a rumor, that is true, that newest google wifi pro has problem without fix too! My entire home and points are getting offline every day!💩💩💩💩

My Xfinity internet provides me 600Mbps connection. Their router (with 2 Gigabit ethernet ports) gives me ~300-400Mbps on the Wifi to my laptop. But, my Google 3 puck mesh AC-1304 that is connected to the Xfinity Gb port only gives my 80-90Mbps wifi BECAUSE IT NO LONG CONNECTS AT Gb. It's now ONLY connecting at 100MBps speeds. I spent several hours today isolating this problem to GOOGLE...Xfinity equipment and service is working as adverised. AND, this is NEW. I've had this same install for 2 years and this just started. WTF!! It's like they did a major upgrade and the new driver does not even know about Gb networking!!! Who are these kids?

I've logged a support case with Google, but I'm not hopeful. Seems everyone having same issues. I work in IT with public facing services which I run major incident management for, and for the life of me I do not understand how this firmware hasn't been rolled back. The problem is obvious at this point. The reason I ended up buying the Google Nest wi-fi because I figured it was avoid these kinds of issues given the resources at Google's disposal. I have no words for how outrageous this situation is.

Same issue. Of course it took me forever to even realize it was the update that caused this.

I'm having the same issue and it's getting frustrating. One of the points will randomly go offline as often as once a day.

I've filled out the form so hopefully someone reaches out to me to try and solve this.

Today both my points went offline. I unplugged and plugged them back in and they are still offline. This is incredibly frustrating! When everything around us is connected to the internet, TVs, phones, computers, security cameras, etc. it is unacceptable to break people's WiFi and not even address their concerns for months, let alone roll back the broken version until a proper fix is found. I feel absolutely helpless because I know even if I throw away this expensive brick and buy something else eventually I'll end up in the same situation. Only piece of mind I still have is that most of the important things in my house, work computer, TV, and VoIP phone are hard wired. I guess I'll never feel comfortable enough to not hard wire as much as possible.

i have had 3 days now of not beeing able to use my internet at home due to this issue.

how can you roll out an firmware wich is corrupt or buggy and not do a patch or a rollback ? i have 6 nodes i thought it was something to do with having to many in the mesh network but now i found out it was a software update you did that messed all up ! its crazy paid a fortune for theese and they are garbage at the moment. going back to ethernet cable and a solid ASUS router. 3 days of my life factory reseting and frigging removing and adding these nodes !

So I switched from Google Nest to Eero 6+...what a breath of fresh air. They had rolled out a firmware update, people were having issues, so guess what? They rolled the firmware BACK to the latest stable release where people did not have issues -- imagine that, a company that actually listens and responds quickly!

I went to Netgear Orbi Pro with blackfriday deal. I really loved Google but they left me on this one. 😞

Even after 3 cases... The servicedesk guy: "please change your wifi password to someting simple, please don't use a "!".... Me... really Google. Really.....

We started having this issue right around the time of the update and it has occurred consistently every 1-10 days or so since then. There is no pattern in the occurrence that I can tell.

Our environment: Xfinity Gigabit with CM1000, 3 Google WiFi points, 2 wired (with 2 images switches in the network also) and 1 mesh. Normal speeds are 800/45 Mbps wired and 550/45 Mbps wireless to my phone. The system has been totally unchanged for about 3 years and hasn't had a single issue until this summer.

Symptoms when this occurs:

  • Speed drops to around 10/10 Mbps (but bounces around a lot) for both wired and wireless connections as well as speed tests from the router itself
  • Packet loss goes to 10s of a %
  • Average ping to the Google router goes to 1-4 seconds
  • Testing between other devices in the internal network retains low ping and no pocket loss
  • Connecting directly to the Netgear router delivers normal Internet speeds
  • Restarting the Google WiFi network via the app always resolved the issue

My google Nest Wifi just started to play up today. It keeps dropping off, disconnecting the mesh (the 2 access points show as offline, and the main router cannot be connected to, except for via the wired network, via Google Home app). I temporarily got it working again by doing all the steps outlined at the beginning of this post (including factory reset), but within an hour it was back to dead again.
I found this thread, when I put the firmware version my Google Nest Router is showing, into Google Search. Seems I am another victim of Google-WiFi-Gen-1-completely-RUINED-by-14150-376-32-firmware

NOTE: I recently bought a Google Nest Wifi camera, to use as a kind of baby monitor. Now of course the Google Nest Wifi is broken, and we have no way to monitor the baby anymore.

I was able to fix it, by hard resetting every last bit of hardware I have from google (some even needed more than one hard reset). The router, each of the 2 APs and the google nest wifi camera. So far the wifi has been stable, since then, but the camera failed again today, and needed another 2 hard resets, before working again.
Overall experience is a 1 out of 5, google. I wouldn't buy their rubbish again.

Btw: while trying to resolve my issues, I encountered the following problem:

Both the access points were showing as "Chromecast" during device search. I only knew that these were the access points, as in the 2nd line, it mentioned the name I had given each, previously.

Simply resetting by power cycles did nothing to resolve this. I had to use the hard reset button (hidden under the rubber base, look for a circle indentation), to get the access points to behave properly again.

Called G support. Turns out the new software release couldn’t work with the cable modem in a router mode as well. Put the modem in a bridge mode and the G Mesh wifi Router is stable for now.

I've noticed some strange things in the Google Home app now that I keep looking at it daily. First, half my devices are listed as offline, things like my cell phone or nest cameras, which I know are working. Then, if I run a mesh test it says all my points are offline but then devices are connected to the points and working. Finally, after the mesh test, when I click done, the point are still showing Great Connection even though the test said they were offline.

I don't know if the Nest WiFi is providing inaccurate data to the Google Home app or if the problem is even more widespread.

the DNS changes and the Factory Reset did seem to help my 4 puck setup. Been stable for about a week now.

Its has been more than 2 months now, #google #nest #wifi, no fix or reverting back the update option. Do we need to file public petition for this???
