Block YouTube

TRedenbacher
Community Member

YouTube is atrocious for parents - kids watch what they shouldn't be and are sneaky. I have Chromecasts on every TV, so even uninstalling, YouTube content is still recommended on the home page. The best recommendation I see online is to block from a router level - however I also use Google WiFi and I can't find a way to block specific sites within the Google Home app when managing my network.

This is incredibly frustrating. I like using YouTube, but I don't trust the content for my kids to have access to it. There needs to be a solution.

Hi TRedenbacher,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear that you cannot find the option to turn off the recommendations from YouTube. Don't worry, I'm here to help.

If you want to hide personalized recommendations on Google TV, you can turn on apps-only mode for your profile. For example, when you have guests, you can use apps-only mode to hide your personalized recommendations.

Turn on apps-only mode.

  1. From the Google TV home screen, select Settings > Accounts & Sign In.
  2. Select your profile > Apps-only mode > Turn on.
  3. To browse in "Apps only mode," on your remote, select Home.

Also, you have the option to set up a kids profile on Google TV to choose which apps your kids can use and to set up bedtime reminders and screen time limits. Just follow the next article: Use parental controls on Google TV

Feel free to keep us posting if you have more questions.

Regards,

Kevin

if you go back and search “block” this topic comes up over and over and the answer is that google doesnt have the capability to block certain websites. I don’t understand why this isn’t a priority for them, but Apple parental controls on phones don’t work and they don’t care either. It will probably take an act of congress to make this type of upgrade to the service…
